Rafaello Coconut Balls – A Simple No-Bake Treat

These small white balls, coated in coconut and filled with a crunchy almond, are known for their delicate flavor and soft texture. In many homes they appear on the table during birthdays, holidays or family visits. Carefully shaped and often arranged in decorative paper cups, they always look festive and inviting.

What makes Rafaello balls especially popular is their simplicity. The ingredients are basic, the preparation is easy, and there is no need to turn on the oven. Despite that, their creamy taste and combination of coconut and almond create a dessert that feels elegant and memorable.

If you are searching for a quick sweet treat that looks beautiful and requires minimal effort, these coconut balls are a perfect choice. Behind their simple appearance lies a dessert that carries a touch of tradition and homemade warmth.

Ingredients

  • 250 g margarine
  • 500 g sugar
  • 200 ml water
  • 500 g powdered milk
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 150 g coconut flakes
  • 100 g whole almonds

Preparation

Step 1 – Prepare the base mixture

Place the margarine, water and sugar in a saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium heat until everything melts and combines into a smooth liquid.

Step 2 – Add the dry ingredients

Remove the saucepan from the heat. Then add:

  • powdered milk
  • vanilla sugar
  • 100 g of coconut flakes

Mix thoroughly until the ingredients form a uniform, thick mixture.

Step 3 – Chill the mixture

Transfer the mixture to the refrigerator and allow it to cool completely. Ideally, leave it overnight, because a colder mixture will be much easier to shape.

Step 4 – Shape the balls

Once the mixture has chilled, take small portions and roll them into balls. Press one whole almond into the center of each ball.

Step 5 – Coat with coconut

Roll each ball in the remaining 50 g of coconut flakes so they are evenly covered.

Serving

Keep the finished balls in the refrigerator until serving time. They can also be served immediately, but chilling them slightly helps them keep their shape and improves the texture.

Tip

For a more festive presentation, place each ball into small paper dessert cups. You can also sprinkle a little extra coconut on top to make them look even more decorative.
